On Saturday 7th March two brethren of Lodge Temperance 2557, Bro. C N. Tait and Bro. S. Bough, tracked up to Berwick for the installation of W. Bro. S. Newman. For any brethren that haven’t yet been to the Masonic Temple at Berwick, let me firstly say it is a must see, dating back to 1872!

The ceremony was exceptionally performed with a number of subtleties, specific to St. David’s Lodge. Keeping everyone in order and on cue was their Director of Ceremonies, whom afterwards we learnt is 89 years young! Freemasonry certainly keeping the brain active! In attendance were many brethren from north and south of the border filling the pews.

Being new to the Craft, it is fascinating to see the differences in the signs and landmarks of different lodges and St. David’s certainly did not disappoint! The festive board was highly entertaining with a wee dram provided for toasting, with St. David’s lodge having a very unique method of firing which is worth visiting just to experience, all I will say is, by the penultimate toast myself and Bro. S. Bough were finally getting the hang it!

St. David’s is certainly a lodge we will be looking forward to visiting again in the very near future. For those wishing to know more about St. David’s Lodge, there is an excellent informative website here.

A memorable, fun evening and such an impressive old Lodge.

It was a pleasure to see you there. We hope to reciprocate at some time! I met a radio precsenter from Radio Northumberland who did the disco at your lodge yesterday!
