Our newest Master Mason, Bro Mark , shares his thoughts on Freemasonry, Lodge Temperance 2557 and the Widows Sons:

“I was initially interested in Freemasonry for several reasons including the social and charity aspects as well as being quite curious about the craft in general.

Having joined Lodge Temperance no 2557 and being initiated into Freemasonry early last year, I knew from the start that I was going to enjoy the journey. The support I received from the men I had met at the interview, who would soon become my Brothers, made me realise that I had chosen a great place as my mother lodge. I immediately wanted to visit other lodges to witness initiations, then the same as I passed to the Fellowcraft degree and now as a Master Mason, being reminded at all times to enjoy it but not over-do it!

Being a keen biker, the very natural addition to my Masonic journey after becoming a Master Mason, was to join the Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association. Aside from the joy that having a family brings, there is no greater feeling than being out on two wheels in the sun with fellow Masons, practicing the founding principles of Freemasonry out in the community.

Indeed there is some social overlap between being a Widows Sons and the other spare time biking hobby I have of being an advanced riding instructor with Northumbria Advanced Motorcyclists (NAM), since some of the NAM membership are also Masons. The instructors for NAM (called Observers) do so voluntarily in their spare time in order to promote road safety and raise the standards of riders who join.

I’m looking forward to the new friends I will make in the Widows Sons (I hope!) and the rides out. Goodness knows I’m already chomping at the bit to get on the list for the Branding 2019!”

When asked what the “Branding 2019” was about he replied “You have to join to find out! It’s a rally more or less, with a twist. I haven’t been and they won’t tell me what goes on.”

Guess you’ll have to watch this space to find out more, unless of course it’s a secret!
