The regular meeting held on June 18th at the Masonic Temple in Corbridge Road, Byker was a great success attended by many members and visiting brethren.  Wbro Chris stood in for the Worshipful Master who is on holiday, Wbro Dave W for the Senior Warden, Wbro Keith N for the DC and at the very last minute Bro Steve S as Inner Guard, his first time on the floor.

WM proposed Wbro Alan B as a joining member.

Ballots were held to elect the WM, Treasurer, Tyler, lodge committee and auditors for the ensuing year.

Wbro Chris gave a very interesting talk about the campaign to erect a £10,000 bronze 4ft by 6ft memorial plaque for former Newcastle United player and manager Joe Harvey at St James’ Park. Under his captaincy Newcastle won the FA Cup in 1951 and 1952 and later under his leadership as manager the club last brought home major silverware when the Magpies won the Fairs Cup in 1969. Fans have been urging United chiefs to help them realise their dream and in a recent meeting with the club they were told they can have the plaque. Wbro Chris also talked about Freemasons in sport.

Regrettably the brethren of Lodge Temperance balloted for the exclusion of one member under rule 181 Book of Constitutions as a result of the non payment of subscriptions.

The Treasurer proposed an increase in the annual subscription of £3 for the ensuing masonic year and also advised that he will write to all members to give them the option of paying their dues by monthly bankers standing order.

The brethren were informed of the sad news that Bro Darren M. wished to stop his association with the lodge. The WM and brethren wished him all the best in his future endeavours.

The Junior Deacon Bro Chris T announce that he is hoping to arrange a trip to the Story of Freemasonry at the Tullie House museum in Carlisle. This is a rare collection of masonic objects from Carlisle’s 14 masonic lodges and a number of masonic artefacts never seen outside of London. Please contact Bro Chris T if you’re interested.

The lodge was closed in love and harmony
